Volunteer/Internship Opportunities

New Hope offers numerous opportunities to get involved in our agency. Below is a list of some of those opportunities and what they would entail. In order to intern with New Hope, students must receive academic credit from thieir educational institution; however, students may also volunteer their time in our programs. All volunteer and internship inquiries may be sent to new-hope@new-hope.org.

Hotline/Shelter Advocate (Volunteer or Intern)

  • Answer domestic violence and rape crisis calls; provide support and referrals.
  • Support and share skills with residents of domestic violence shelter; assist staff with shelter duties; provide childcare as needed; plan and faciliate recreational activities for shelter residents.
  • 40 hours training, 1 year commitment - volunteers, 3 month commitment - interns

Counseling Advocate (Master's Level Volunteer or Intern)

  • Conduct intakes and interviews
  • Faciliate one-on-one counseling sessions
  • Facilitate and/or co-facilitate group support sessions
  • 40 hours training, 6 months-1 year commitment

Public Relations/Development and Marketing (Volunteer or Intern)

  • Assist the Development/Public Relations Department with all aspects of New Hope Public Relations/Media activities
  • Ability to create media outreach materials, including: press releases, media advisories, fact sheets, newsletters and the Annual Report
  • Participate in the planning and execution of Public Relations/Media campaigns & initiatives
  • Coordinate Public Relations/Media functions for agency events (including Golf Tournament, Gala, Gourmet Guys and Annual Meeting)

Fiscal Intern

  • Review/code/post vendor invoices; prepare payments schedule.
  • Post accounts receivable entries for state contracts.
  • Prepare non-state contracts and invoices and mail to service recipients.
  • Post Cash Receipts Journal and bank deposits, Reconcile ledger accounts.
  • Review billing procedures for various funding sources (state, municipal, private)

Human Resources Intern

  • Participate in review of current policy and procedures manual and provide feedback for revisions
  • Audit current personnel documentation procedures
  • Determine efficiency limitations with current procedure/requirements
  • Provide input for form revisions
  • Prepare and process employee benefit information and update HR information as needed.

Transitional Living Program (Volunteer or Intern)

  • Assist clients living in the Transitional Living Program apartments
  • Maintain necessary records and statistics
  • Help coordinate donations to the TLP
  • Reserach and maintain community resources contacts
  • 40 hours training, 3 month commitment - interns

Education and Outreach Assistant (Volunteer or Intern)

  • Co-facilitate school-based prevention programs
  • Help to deliver outreach materials in the community
  • Assist with agency outreach projects
  • Assist in updating and maintaining agency training materials
  • 40 hours training, 3 month commitment - interns

Rape Crisis Advocate - On Call - Southeast Area Only (Volunteer or Interns)

  • Support Sexual Assault clients in the Emergency Room during a Rape Kit Exam
  • 40 hours training, 1 year commitment - volunteers, 6 month commitment - interns

SAFEPLAN Court Advocate (Volunteer or Interns)

  • Support clients as they go through the court process of obtaining restraining orders in Taunton, Attleboro, Dudley, East Brookfield or Westborough courts
  • 25 hours SAFEPLAN training, Approximately 20 hours of agency/background training, 1 year commitement - volunteers, 6 month commitment - interns

  3. 18 years of age or older
  4. Must have means of transportation

  • Visitation Center Advocate: assist with donation coordination, administrative needs and visitation observations. (Worcester Office)
  • Administrative: fiscal assistance, report generation, mailings (Attleboro Office)
